Organic Spring Week – Community Garden

The Plantar Portugal Movement is celebrating the 6th organic spring week this year.

The association and the Transition group will be celebrating next weekend April 2nd and 3rd, from 09am onwards sharing the maintenance of our community garden at Bemparece in Monchique. Bring your picnic lunch to share and a glass to try cider from Monchique and organic wines.

Hiking from Marmelete to Aljezur

On Wednesday 6 April 2016, we’ll be walking the 19 km extension of the Via Algarviana between Marmelete and Aljezur. We’ll depart from the association’s office in Monchique at 9am. Contact us on info@anossaterra.org or 963 559 253 for details.

2015/2016 Water Monitoring Programme in Monchique

The hydrologic year started on October 1st 2015. Since most streams are not permanent, the water sampling programmes takes place in spring, between February and July.

The next sampling will take place on April 11th at the Ribeira do Seixe. The meeting point is at 09h00 at the association’s office in Monchique. This month we will also have sampling sessions with the Manuel do Nascimento School in Monchique and with students from the University of Portsmouth, UK.

The next dates are: May 16th (tributaries of the Ria do Alvor) and June 6th (Rio Arade).

Course in aquaponics

ECO123 is organising a course in aquaponics on 15-17 April in Caldas de Monchique.

Working together to prevent Animal Cruelty – Seminar

Seminar organised by the Safe Communities Algarve, in conjunction with the Câmara Municipal de Portimão, for those who are concerned about animal welfare in the Algarve. This seminar will take place on 13th April, from 15h to 19h, at the TEMPO Theatre in Portimão. The seminar will be in English and entry is free.

Lagoa in Transition Group Meeting: Walk and herbalist workshop

The Lagoa in Transition group will go for a walk through a herbal field as well as a workshop about medicinal plants, with the herbalist Daisy Mae and the naturist Marilyn Medina Ribeiro. This meeting will take place on April 16th, and the meeting point will be at 9h00 at Lagoa’s Library. The walk will cost 5€. The walk with the lunch and the workshop included will cost 20€. Algarve Without Fires – Seminar

Another seminar organised by the Safe Communities Algarve will take place in Caldas de Monchique, on 29th April, between 16h and 18h. This seminar will be in English and it will discuss fire prevention measures in order to avoid fires. This seminar is organized with the Câmara Municipal de Monchique.

Permaculture Course at Terra do Milho

Between May 28th and June 11th there will be a permaculture course at Terra do Milho, in Monchique.

It will be taught by Lesley Martin, who will cover an internationally permaculture recognised syllabus.

In this course you will learn to design regenerative systems that provide food, energy, and shelter, creating resilient human communities that care for the earth, provide for the people and create abundance to share.
