The environmental association “Grupo Flamingo” is independent and non-party political. It dedicates its activities to training and awareness building, carrying them out on a voluntary but professional basis. Intent on the protection of the natural environment, the association is a partner in the defence of the factors that influence the wellbeing of the population. Founded in 2002, the association has grown out of the Corroios Saltmarsh Protection Group, a civil movement that protested against the destruction of the heart of the Seixal ecological reserve.
The Grupo Flamingo is responsible for the establishment of the nursery for local species, established to reforest the Mata dos Medos, part of the protected area of the Caparica coast. The nursery is operate
d in partnership with the Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e das Florestas.
